Welcome to Voices by BeWell Therapy

Sing. Connect. Belong.

Voices is a community choir providing a safe, inclusive, and non-judgmental space for community members to come together, connect, learn, grow, and sing.

Participation is open to anyone in the local community aged 16+. (You don’t need to be a client of BeWell Therapy to join us.) Our vision is to create a space where everyone can experience the mental health benefits of connection, creativity, music, and belonging, while simply enjoying the opportunity to sing with others.

Not a great singer? Can’t read music? That’s OK! We’re more interested in creating connection through the joy of singing than a flawless performance. Our choir director will meet you wherever you’re currently at and help you to make the most of your voice.

Songs will be non-denominational and chosen for a focus on mental health-related themes with the goal of preparing for a 2027 spring concert, where we can celebrate everything we’ve learned and the connections we’ve made.

Ready to join us?

Registration is $125 + HST. Includes all practices for the season, up to our 2027 spring concert.

Why join a community choir?

Why join a community choir?

Increased Meaningful Connections:

Singing together breaks down barriers and bridges gaps between people. By engaging in a shared weekly activity, members build strong bonds that help combat feelings of loneliness.

A Greater Sense of Belonging:

When individual voices blend together into harmony and unified song, it creates a powerful reminder that we are part of something bigger than ourselves.

A Renewed Sense of Purpose:

Working together toward common musical goals gives choir members a shared mission and a deep sense of community identity. Having the target of a concert to prepare for gives weekly practices additional meaning.

Increased Confidence:

Experience personal growth in a low-pressure setting where mistakes are part of the learning process. Mastering new rhythms, harmonies, and songs boosts self-esteem and proves that anyone can pick up new skills at any age.

Reconnection with the Joy of Music:

Music has a unique ability to uplift spirits and release tension, offering an expressive creative outlet away from daily stresses. Singing purely for the pleasure of it allows us to experience authentic joy and emotional release.

New Community Relationships:

A choir serves as a local gathering place where neighbours from all walks of life can cross paths and connect. These weekly interactions pave the way for lasting friendships and a stronger, more supportive local network.

Rediscovery of a Passion for Singing:

If you used to sing in school, church, or community groups, Voices provides a familiar and welcoming place to rekindle that passion without the pressure or demands of auditions.

A Supportive, Judgment-Free Space:

Every voice is valued exactly as it is, creating an atmosphere focused on encouragement rather than perfection. Members can feel safe trying new things, knowing that the environment is centered on acceptance and mutual support.

Who can join?

This choir is designed to be accessible to everyone, regardless of musical background.

There is no upper limit on this age restriction. Youths who are 16+, adults, and seniors are all welcome!

Never been in a choir before? Not sure how to read music? No problem! This is the perfect opportunity to start.

Have you sung in a choir before? Great! We’d love to benefit from your experience.

No auditions are required!

Mental Health Through Music:

Music has a unique ability to bring people together, evoke emotion, and create shared experiences. All songs selected for Voices feature a mental-health-related theme or focus, opening doors for reflection and conversation while keeping the heart of the experience centered on music, connection, and community.

Please Note: Voices is not a therapy group. It’s a community initiative sponsored by BeWell Therapy that promotes mental wellness through music, relationships, creativity, and belonging.

Leadership and Rehearsal Schedule

We’re thrilled to partner with Patricia Brown, who serves as our Choir Director. We are deeply grateful for this connection and excited to grow this initiative within Durham Region.

Practice Details:

  • Start Date: Monday, November 9
  • When: Every Monday evening from 7:00 PM – 8:30 PM (excluding statutory holidays)
  • Location: Whitby (TBD)

Looking Ahead: Spring 2027 Concert

Our choir will work toward a celebratory spring concert in late March or early April 2027 to mark the end of our first season and celebrate the connections built along the way. This evening will showcase more than just choral music—it will be a multi-disciplinary celebration of community and mental health featuring:
  • Spoken word and poetry
  • Displays from local visual artists and photo essayists
  • Guest performances by local musicians
A portion of all ticket proceeds from the concert will be donated to a local mental health charity.
